1. Verification and Accuracy
Before publication, we seek to examine the source, date, context and available evidence for a claim. We avoid treating a single allegation as a proven conclusion. When a developing story cannot yet be fully verified, we aim to make that uncertainty clear.
2. Allegations and Right of Response
Claims concerning individuals, organisations, officials or elected representatives are described as allegations until substantiated. Where practical, we seek a response from the relevant party. Silence or an unavailable response is not proof of wrongdoing. Material responses received later may be reflected in an update.
3. Sources, Documents and Privacy
We value official records, verifiable documents, first-hand reporting and relevant interviews. We assess confidential-source information carefully and take reasonable care with sensitive personal data, subject to the public interest and applicable law.
4. News, Opinion and Advertising
Reporting, analysis, opinion and paid promotions serve different purposes. We aim to label these distinctions when relevant. Editorial decisions should not be bought or directed by an advertiser.
5. Corrections and Updates
When a potentially material factual error is brought to our attention, we review available evidence and correct or clarify the report where warranted. We aim to make meaningful changes understandable to readers. For corrections, use Contact Us and include the story URL, disputed passage and supporting material.
6. Images, Video and AI Illustrations
We aim to assess visual material for authenticity and context. Illustrations, reenactments and AI-generated images should not be represented as genuine photographs of an event. AI-generated illustrative material should be labelled so readers can distinguish it from documentary images.
7. Sponsored Material
Payment for advertising does not guarantee favourable news coverage or editorial influence. Paid promotions should be clearly identified as advertising or sponsored content. See Advertise With Us.
8. Reader Concerns
We welcome documented feedback about accuracy, fairness, privacy and public interest. Reviewing a complaint does not itself mean the publication has accepted that the story was incorrect.
